JEDDAH — The Omani Consulate hosted the 42nd anniversary of the country’s National Day here, Sunday evening.



Consul-generals and ambassadors of several countries as well as many prominent Saudi personnel and businessmen attended the event at Crowne Plaza in the city’s Al-Hamra District.



Omani Consul General Jumaah Al-Rashdy and consulate members received guests at the event.



Al-Rashdy’s speech began with a vote of thanks to all guests at the celebrations and congratulations to Saudi Arabia on the successful surgery on King Abdullah, Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques.



Al-Rashdy expressed appreciation to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for the constant support given to the Omani Consulate.



November 18, 1970, marked a renaissance in Oman. Ever since, achievements in all sectors and fields of the sultanate’s governorates and regions have been ongoing under the leadership of Sultan Qabous Bin Said, Al-Rashdy said.



Saudi poet Khaled Eidhah Al-Harthy recited a poem on the occasion.




Al-Rashdy and Mohammad Ahmad Tayeb, Director General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Makkah, cut the celebration cake.



Guests also had a chance to taste the famous Omani halwa and other dishes.




Some of the guests included Consul General of Sudan Khaled Al-Taras; Consul General of Palestine Dr. Emad Sha’at; Consul General of Algeria Saleh Atiyah; Acting Consul General of Turkey Fikret ?zer; Egypt’s Consul General Adel El-Alfy; Lebanon’s Consul General Ziad Atallah; Consul General of USA Anne Casper; Joseph Leavitt, US Vice Consul of Political and Economic affairs; and Emily Abraham, US Information Officer.
