Labor Minister Adel Fakeih has taken positive steps to strengthen the position and status of women in the Kingdom. There are many families in which women are the only breadwinners and if the work environment is good and conducive for women, then they can concentrate on their jobs and work smoothly and peacefully. Recently, I visited Farm 9, Al-Khobar, and was very pleased to see that women were working as cashiers at the check-out counters clad in full veil and were performing their jobs very efficiently.
In this way, they were fulfilling their obligation toward their religion as well as strengthening their financial position. Also, it is heartening to read that SABB organized a national conference in which senior officials from the public and private sectors were present to focus on the issue of the work environment for Saudi women. I think that both the public and private sectors should employ as many as women as they can in order to give a boost to the country’s economy. It is a fact of life that if a country intends to progress by leaps and bounds, then both men and women should shoulder the responsibilities equally, and if that is done, then a progressive path for the country can be cemented on a firm basis.
