JEDDAH — The Jeddah municipality, as part of its continuous effort to protect the safety of consumers, foiled an attempt to distribute 30 tons of pastry leaves (used to make Sambousak [fried meat pie]) that was not good for human consumption. The branch of Umm Al-Salam of Jeddah municipality raided a warehouse in Al-Harrazat neighborhood, east of the Jeddah-Makkah expressway that was turned into an unlicensed production factory to produce Sambousak pastry leaves. Twenty-four people, whose nationalities were not revealed and working illegally, were arrested at the warehouse and all quantity seized. Earlier, the branch of Al-Jamea municipality, south of Jeddah, seized two tons of rotten dates. The municipality warned violators that they would be punished if caught and urged citizens to contact the municipality on 940 to report suspicious activities.
