KUALA LUMPUR — Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Iyad Madani had a fruitful meeting with Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak in Putrajaya, the country's administrative capital, on Wednesday.

The two sides discussed the Southern Philippines peace agreement as well as other issues of mutual concern, including the developments in Palestine, Yemen and the wider Middle East.

They also examined the humanitarian crisis affecting Muslim minorities in the region, particularly Myanmar.

Views were also exchanged on issues relating to economy, education and Islamophobia where cooperation and solidarity were emphasized as grounds for effectively addressing the issues.

Madani stressed the need for all parties to commit to the Philippine peace agreement and welcomed the role of Malaysia as a third party facilitator.

The OIC chief later made a courtesy call on Jamil Khir Baharom, minister for religious affairs in the prime minister’s department.

He also visited the Chemical Company of Malaysia, whose pharmaceutical products are halal-certified.
