JEDDAH – Mohammed Raziq Abdul Vahid from Kerala has been elected new chairman of the managing committee of the International Indian School-Jeddah (IISJ).



The election was held Thursday evening under the supervision of Consul Education, Head of Chancery and the School Observer Muhammed Raqib Qureshi. Speaking to Saudi Gazette, Qureshi said the election of Abdul Vahid was unanimous. The term of the chairman is one year.



“The election was held after obtaining consent from the Ministry of Education, and the entire process was smooth. The committee also discussed several topics on the agenda,” he said.



IISJ Principal Syed Masood Ahmed also attended the meeting. Ahmed Najeeb Hashmi proposed Abdul Vahid’s name after Mohammed Hyder Ali Qureshi, who was also in the fray, withdrew his nomination.



Abdul Vahid succeeds Haroon Rasheed, who continued to hold office for more than five months after expiry of his one-year term in June.



In the elections held on June 20, 2013, seven members have been elected to the managing committee. Dr. Rasheed, who scored the highest number of votes, was later elected as chairman. Dr. Abdul Aziz Amanullah Chogle, Mohammed Mahboob Ali and Mohammed lIyas Momin are the other members of the committee.



Abdul Vahid told Saudi Gazette that his first priority will be to accomplish the committee’s mission to find a new campus for the school.



“The committee has appointed a consultant with regard to facilitating the process of leasing land and building a big campus for girls and boys,” he said, while thanking Indian Ambassador Hamid Ali Rao for his utmost keenness in taking up and resolving the issue of the girls’ campus with the Ministry of Education.



“We are expecting a positive and favorable decision in this regard in the near future,” he said.



Abdul Vahid thanked Qureshi and the managing committee members for the trust reposed in him.



Abdul Vahid who hails from Thiruvananthapuram, capital of Kerala, is working as an administrator at Saada Medical Center, Jeddah. Najiya is his wife and the couple have a son and two daughters.
