BAGHDAD — They say love knows no limits and one Iraqi pilot seems to have tested the saying after flying a military helicopter over his girlfriend’s university to express his adoration for her, local media reported this week.

However, Iraqi officials weren’t impressed with the stunt.

Footage posted online showed the pilot, who was not identified, flying his military chopper over Al-Mamoun University in the capital, Baghdad.

The pilot’s stunt, which rattled the university’s students, has also embarrassed officials in the country.

Defense Minister Khaled Al-Obeidi issued a statement apologizing to the dean, professors and students of the university.

“Obeidi sent a committee of lieutenants to Al-Mamoun University to offer an apology to the dean, professors, and students over the irresponsible act of one airforce member,” Iraq Press Agency quoted the official statement as saying.

The Defense Ministry said it launched a probe into the incident and vowed it would punish those responsible for the misconduct.

Iraqis took to Internet over the incident, sharing the video on different social media.

Reactions were mixed, with some lamenting the loss of discipline in the once strong military.

“Iraqi pilot leaves war against ISIS and flirts with his girlfriend by flying with helicopter over her campus,” another user said in a post. — Al Arabiya News
